Bayan College was established in 2006 under the patronage of the Ministry of Higher Education. The College functioned in a rented campus in Madinat Illam for the first ten years. In September 2016, it moved to its own new, purpose-built and spacious campus in Halban with state of the art infrastructural facilities and modern amenities. This institution holds the distinction of being the first college in the private sector to offer programs in Media Studies.
Bayan College holds an affiliation with Purdue University Northwest, USA. Three academic departments function in the College: Media Studies; English Studies; and the General Foundation Program. The Department of Media Studies runs Diploma and Bachelor level program majors in Journalism, Broadcasting, Advertising and Public Relations. The Department of English Studies offers Diploma and Bachelor level program majors in English Literature and English Professional Writing. The General Foundation Program and the general requirement courses offer programs to enhance the four language skills in English (reading, listening, writing and speaking) as well as Mathematics, Information Technology, Academic Study Skills programs and the required academic/study skills respectively.
To make the programs relevant to market needs and demands, the College Graduate Attributes have been specifically designed based on Industry and Advisory Committee advice and feedback, and are aligned with the Oman Qualifications Framework.
The College’s affiliation with Purdue University Northwest enhances the quality of the offered programs, which are regularly monitored by a Purdue team, and updated as and when needed. Bayan College holds Memorandums of Understanding with reputed local and overseas institutions in areas such as curriculum development, bench-marking and on-the-job-training opportunities for students.
The College offers both morning and evening classes to give equal opportunities to regular students and the working population who wish to update their subject knowledge or pursue higher degrees. The academic and non-academic departments work in coordination to create a congenial ambience and to provide all possible support to the learners.
Bayan College has a team of highly qualified and experienced staff members manning the academic and non-academic departments. The multinational, multicultural academia provides an ideal atmosphere for students to develop an inclusive culture in their learning environment, while retaining all the essential features of the local culture and traditions.
